What is acne?
Acne presents itself in various ways as whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and/or cystic acne. The complications of acne include pigmentation, redness, textural changes, scar, and contour changes.
What causes acne?
Multiple factors lead to acne. Systemic causes are hormonal imbalance(sex hormones, food hormone, and stress hormones). Local factors form what we see as acne: improper oil production, dead skin cells buildup, clogged pores, and bacteria formation. sebum production, dead skin cells, clogged pores, bacteria, and subsequent inflammation. It can happen anywhere from your face, neck, back to your chest. When hormones are imbalanced, skin produces abnormal quality and quantity of oil, followed by dead skin buildup and pores clogging, forming non-inflammatory acne with blackheads and whiteheads. Subsequently, bacteria sets in and trigger further inflammation, causing inflammatory acne with red papules, pus forming pustules, and volcanic erupting cystic acne. Complications of acne include postinflammatory pigmentation, scarring, and volume loss.
