The veins are visualized with a specialized light. Specialized intravenous sclerosing agents are used to inject the unsightly veins. Slight burning may be noticed. The interior of the veins is slowly scarred within to gradually close down these veins. Venous flow is rechanneled to other more functional veins. Tape is applied, and compression stocking or elastic bandage is applied.

Generally, several sessions are recommended, spaced four weeks apart.
